for Actual Intelligence

Parents Making America Smart Again™

Welcome to Productive Education, working with parents of school aged students around the country to make America smart again with it's national DocOA™ Organizing Literacy Program

I'm the parent. Why does this make sense?

Welcome, I'm glad you're here.

Take an hour on our learning management system and explore the world of making and binding a DocOA™ (pronounced Doc Away). You've discovered  The Schwartz Method for Organizing Literacy.

Whether you find yourself...

  • Parenting a school aged child: Deal with disorganization/achieve Organizing Literacy with DocOA™ (3rd grade to High School)
  • Parenting a student's STEM project: Choose DocOA with your student in their Inventure, STEM, or Shark Tank project
  • Parenting an Inventor: Advance even further with "Utility Patenting for IP SAVVYS" (teaches ENTRY level utility patenting)
  • Teaching a student in an Inventure, STEM, or Shark Tank with lessons that the teacher, parent and student follow together

...you're in the right place. You and your student will bind together a set of pockets configured to work with Schwartz's Input-Process-Output model for classroom document management. With The Schwartz Method for Organizing Literacy, the process is the product™ - it's practical, it's economical, and it works.

Take the course, build the tools, then Just Use It™. As a Student/Parent/Teacher team, become Input-Process-Output engineers together.  Almost like magic, see how making, using, then refining the tools accelerates you down the learning curve, improving educational outcomes at each turn.

Schwartz's codified and generalized set of reusable critical thinking techniques - the literacy part- naturally work in combination with the DocOA pockets. The student makes and uses a learning "tool" that enables both the formation/retention of Actual Intelligence in any subject area, along with the organic acquisition of organizing intelligence.

Explore with Schwartz,  an expert in the field, as he provides a comprehensive picture of the problem. He offers a method of building and using DocOA, a perfect fit for solving the problem of disorganization. Go further and enhance your student's critical thinking and executive function by making DocOA the solution in a STEM project. For more advanced applications, allow students to experience innovation, patenting their DocOA, and complete the learning experience.  Go as far as you like, at your own pace, in the on-demand multi-lesson course.

More about Schwartz Organizing Literacy

Build Student Intellectual Property (IP) with The Schwartz Method (TSM) for Organizing Literacy

"The more things change, the thing is...the thingy is still the same thingy" Schwartz (2026). Once you realize your student's Intellectual Property (IP) is the Actual Intelligence between their two ears, this catch phase will make more and more sense to you. Decide to learn and apply Schwartz's Input-Output-Process problem solving method for Organizing Literacy and Just Use It™. When you take The Schwartz Method on your journey you will GROW SMARTER ...enable your student to embrace TSM and Actual Intelligence in order to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) as their new learning modality.

Take a closer look at Schwartz's I-P-O framework:

Once you understand the I-P-O framework for Organizing Literacy and how it boosts Actual Intelligence, you'll be on your pathway to being IP SAVVY. Here is the next level of IPO you will  learn in the course. This diagram fills in the thinking processes associated with organizing. It shows the type of inputs and outputs that your student will need to manage in their classroom and at home. Today the behaviors are referred to as Executive Function. The thing is, it sounds great to label them, explain the theories, and  teach by telling, but its far more challenging to get students IP SAVVY on their own. In the organizing literacy program offered here, you will do it together by tool building. You don't have to be a school teacher to do it, but if you are, all the better. In the next diagram, I share the STEM loop which is the fundamental method we teach to embed the organizing skills and make them into habits.

We are all TOOL BUILDERS...

That's the single ingredient in our physiology and cultural DNA that allows us to "keep on trucking". What do I mean by that? It's as simple as 1-2-3: as a species, we encounter a problem, build tools to solve it, then move forward. We refine the tools, learn more, and solve further - basically "rinse and repeat". The difference in the Schwartz Method for Organizing Literacy is that students aren't told about the executive functions they need to hone, they build the organizing tools, use them in class, and discover them first hand, on their own.  When you take the course, you will get the IPO and STEM loop diagrams as guides along with the DocOA V2.0 User Manual, and a copy of Schwartz's original book, Growing Smarter, the intelligence of organizing. Check out the FAQ's below and the seminal 1995 Middlesex News article for reference. What's different today is Schwartz delivers the program using off the shelf stationery products making the program economical and universally available. May the Schwartz be with you.

Problem Domain: Parenting of a disorganized  child

You have a school aged child from 3rd grade to high-school. They are "into technology". At the same time, their school book bags are a mess because of their inability to put things away and find them again. That skill is ABSENT. Enter the Schwartz Method for Organizing Literacy. When your child is disorganized and school is a daily battle, then take Schwartz on your journey  down the organizing literacy corridor. Turn your disorganized student into an independent organized student, one week at a time. Watch them solve this problem and watch their anxiety disappear...then watch their grades soar. Enable them with TSM's I-P-O model and help them build their Actual Intelligence so they can control Artificial Intelligence. Start with the link below.

Problem Domain: Parenting a STEM project at your school

STEM programs are in every school in the country starting as early as 3rd grade. Students are taught the new version of the scientific method incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Picking a starting problem is crucial to the learning objective. The STEM  learning loop, as strong as it is, still finds many students struggling with defining a project/problem that is not "silly" or irrelevant. Help them make "disorganization" the problem for their project.  Use TSM as their first SHARK-TANK project with their DocOA organizing assistant. Document their evidence and research for the project and use their observable behavior to reinforce the use of DocOA in their individual discoveries and learning. It's as fundamental as experience by doing and it all begins here. Start with the link below.

Problem Domain:   Parenting and nurturing your STEM inventor

Shark Tanks are asking the students to patent their inventions as part of the learning model...putting student, parent, and teacher in unchartered waters. There is a risk of false hopes even though every student is truly a budding inventor. That inner gift can and should be nurtured in programs like Inventure that make patenting the invention part of the Shark-Tank project. There's a hitch... The big picture now, post the 2012 America Invents Act (AIA), is that it no longer matters if you were "first to invent"...you can only get a patent on the idea if you are "first to file".  This leads to real confusion and anxiety. Navigate this learning opportunity with TSM and Utility Patenting for IP SAVVYS. Our patenting example teaches and uses TSM. Start with the link below.

More on the game  afoot...

It's not wishy washy at all...the idea of organize 360™ is best captured by the 8 arm octopus that can see "all around". The "executive function" skill set Schwartz shares with his model is not only complex, but also paramount in the big scheme of learning. Achieving "dynamic stability" with information handling is core to his I-P-O theory. Apply his method of critical thinking for organizing literacy, enable the formation of Actual Intelligence, boost outcomes, and help your student leverage the use of Artificial intelligence to achieve their learning goals and objectives.

Schwartz is recognized as "The Father of Organizing Literacy". How he arrived at that waypoint is as novel and unique as each and every one of your stories. What is the learning journey and story that you are fostering for your children? Take a page out of Dave's playbook. See his posts on how finder-binder came to be.

Dave looks very good on paper. National Merit Scholar, recipient of the MacMullen full tuition scholarship at Cornell where he received his BSEE in Electrical Engineering. Assistant Professor and Teaching Assistant to earn his MSEE at MIT in Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Science. As a late business executive bloomer, he earned his MBA from the School of Business Management at Boston University and proceeded to invent and patent the original surface computer, along with forming and starting three start-ups.

Schwartz, now appreciated as a national treasure, has the single goal to show parents how to make america smart again. He is blessed to have had influential mentors in his life. He is a disciple of Doug Ross (inventor of SADT), indebted to the early thinkers in AI and early child hood learning...Marvin Minski and Seymour Paper who he studied under...and thankful to have had early mentoring from cousin Charles Steinhardt, and teachers Mr. Walker and Mr. Trinkosfky (find out about those stories later in his blog).

In your hour of exploration, discover his framework and SAVVY theories of hands-on learning by doing. See if he has something that inspires you and your student. When you find The Schwartz Method is a fit for your application, then Just Use It™. Our learning management system provides rich landing pages with content to discover the secret of "Intellectual Property(IP)", to boost your Actual Intelligence, and to successfully achieve your goals step by step/day-in and day-out. Give your student child hope in how to use " their IP" to leverage AI(Artificial Intelligence)...don't let AI intimidate and diminish their hopes and dreams.

If you haven't seen or heard about DocOA before, as a little history lesson, read the FAQ's. Then read the 1995 article that shares the development of the original "HyperFlow Notebook" at FAY School in Massachusetts. Learn even more about the DNA of DocOA in the Productive Education Company History.

DocOA stands the test of time with it's V2.0 release as a result of the power of the underlying I-P-O framework that Schwartz researched and used to build the original tools. In the course enrichment materials, he shares the research and findings that continue to be an inspiration to parents, and especially for educators. Whether a parent or a teacher, don't hesitate to "rinse-and-repeat" with Schwartz,  your student, and DocOA V2.0.
