Welcome, I'm glad you're here.
Take a deep breath and give yourself 1 hour, right now, in our learning management system...explore the world of Schwartz methods. Whether you are an innovator, inventing and patenting a new product or you're a parent of a school aged child helping them to get better organized and learn as part of a STEM/Shark-Tank, you're in the right place to discover the trade secrets of growing smarter.
You've entered into the Schwartz Zone... and you're now on "The Schwartz Method(TSM)" learning curve for innovative problem solving.
Schwartz has codified and generalized critical thinking techniques in a variety of problem spaces called "domains". He calls the underlying foundation, "The Schwartz Method of problem solving" (often referred to as critical thinking). His goal is to help you use TSM to find, use, create, and build your own "tools" to enable your Actual Intelligence.
Pick a domain to start and work as a team <student/parent/teacher> to become IP SAVVY as an "input-process-output" engineer. Enable the student to develop their own Intellectual Property (IP). Like magic, you will automatically refine the tools you're using, more efficiently problem solve and execute in your role and task...accelerate down the learning curve, improving your outcomes at each turning point.
Problem Domain: Parenting of a disorganized child
You have a school aged child from 3rd grade to high-school. They are "into technology". At the same time, their school book bags are a mess because of their inability to put things away and find them again. That skill is ABSENT. Enter the Schwartz Method for Organizing Literacy. When your child is disorganized and school is a daily battle, then take Schwartz on your journey down the organizing literacy corridor. Turn your disorganized student into an independent organized student, one week at a time. Watch them solve this problem and watch their anxiety disappear...then watch their grades soar. Enable them with TSM's I-P-O model and help them build their Actual Intelligence so they can control Artificial Intelligence..
Problem Domain: Parenting a STEM project at your school
STEM programs are in every school in the country starting as early as 3rd grade. Students are taught the new version of the scientific method incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math. Picking a starting problem is crucial to the learning objective. The STEM learning loop, as strong as it is, still finds many students struggling with defining a project/problem that is not "silly" or irrelevant. Help them make "disorganization" the problem for their project. Use TSM as their first SHARK-TANK project with their DocOA organizing. Their evidence and research can be documented for the project and serve to reinforce their use and learning. It all transitions to digital computer filing and AI.
Problem Domain: Parenting and nurturing your STEM inventor
Shark Tanks are asking the students to patent their inventions as part of the learning model...putting student, parent, and teacher in unchartered waters. There is a risk of false hopes even though every student is truly a budding inventor. That inner gift can and should be nurtured in programs like Inventure that make patenting the invention part of the Shark-Tank project. There's a hitch... The big picture now, post the 2012 America Invents Act (AIA), is that it no longer matters if you were "first to invent"...you can only get a patent on the idea if you are "first to file". This leads to real confusion and anxiety. Navigate this learning opportunity with TSM and Utility Patenting for IP SAVVYS.
Why you should consider choosing TSM and I-P-O
Intellectual Property(IP), Organizing Literacy, and Actual Intelligence(AI) according to The Schwartz Method (TSM)
"The more things change, the thing is...the thingy is still the same thingy" Schwartz (2026). Once you realize your Intellectual Property(IP) is the Actual Intelligence between your two ears, this catch phase will make more and more sense to you. Decide to integrate TSM into your Organizing Literacy journey and Just Use It™. Take The Schwartz Method with you down the IP corridor of Actual Intelligence in your domain of choice. GROW SMARTER with TSM on your shoulder...use it wisely and then take control of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Take a closer lookat the I-P-O framework:
Once you understand the I-P-O framework and how it boosts your own Actual Intelligence, you'll be on your pathway to being SAVVY with TSM. We are all TOOL BUILDERS...that's the single ingredient in our cultural DNA that allows us to "keep on trucking". What do I mean by that? It's as simple as 1-2-3: as a species, we encounter a problem, build tools to solve it, then move forward. We refine the tools, learn more, and solve further - basically "rinse and repeat". As a parent help integrate TSM tool building into your child's Actual Intelligence journey.
Pick your "domain" and put TSM to work:
Click one of the Selector Blocks to learn how the I-P-O approach can accelerate you down the learning curve in that application. Explore the learning opportunity in each of the three related problem areas in which Schwartz is an expert...you can start in any one of them. Schwartz provides a complete picture of the problem space and shows how to use TSM in that domain. Boost your Actual Intelligence with TSM and accelerate your real time performance. As a parent of a school aged child, start with the first selector on Organizing Literacy. The other starting points fit into a complete Actual Intelligence run.
More on what's the game that's afoot?
It's not wishy washy at all...each space in which Schwartz shares his model is not only complex, but also paramount in the big scheme of things. Learn his method of critical thinking for your domain, enable the formation of Actual Intelligence, boost outcomes, and leverage the use of Artificial intelligence to achieve your goals and objectives.
Schwartz is recognized as "The Father of Organizing Literacy". How he arrived at that waypoint is as novel and unique as each and each of your stories and the journey you are fostering for your children. Dave looks very good on paper: National Merit Scholar, recipient of the MacMullen full tuition scholarship at Cornell where he received his BSEE in Electrical Engineering. Assistant Professor and Teaching Assistant to earn his MSEE at MIT in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. As a late business executive bloomer he earned his MBA from the School of Business Management at Boston University.
Schwartz is now appreciated as a national treasure and has the single goal "To Make America Smart Again". He is a blessed disciple of Doug Ross (inventor of SADT), of the early thinkers in AI/early childhoodlearning...Marvin Minski and Seymour Papert...,along with early mentoring from Charles Steinhardt, Mr. Walker and Mr. Trinkosfky (find out about those stories later in his blog).
In your hour of exploration, discover his framework and SAVVY theories of learning and doing. See if he has something that inspires you and your student. When you find The Schwartz Method is a fit for your application, then Just Use It™. Our learning management system provides rich landing pages with content to discover the secret of "Intellectual Property(IP)", to boost your Actual Intelligence, and to successfully achieve your goals step by step/day-in and day-out. Give your student child hope in how to use " their IP" to leverage AI(Artificial Intelligence)...don't let AI intimidate and diminish their hopes and dreams.
If you haven't seen or heard about DocOA before, as a little history lesson, read the following article that shares the origin in Massachusetts schools. Even though this started back in 1996, and a lot of other options for organizing have come and gone, DocOA has stood the test of time with it's V2.0 release. Don't hesitate to get on board with your student and in your school.
