Productive Education Company History

Productive Education Now and Then

The more things change...the more they stay the same

To understand how we got here, you can review the company history in the sections following. For the moment, fast forward to 2026. The technology world has changed, even more substantially...but the fundamental goal and method for improving organizational skills remains.

The organizing tools we patented and licensed allowed us to discover the secrets of organizing, and we captured that with The Schwartz Method, Input-Process-Output model for organizing intelligence. Now, we have committed to deliver that same learning opportunity into the same consumer product sector, but this time using off the shelf products that can be more economically manufactured and delivered to homes and schools. We are building on our legacy insights into STEM education as the basis for delivering this learning opportunity on a national scale with the single focus to help parents of school aged students make America Smart Again.

The short animation was created as part of the original vision and inspiration when we introduced the DocOA into a STEM education project at the Fletcher Maynard School in Cambridge with the assistance of Tutoring Plus. We include it here for inspiration and to make the well worn point, that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Company Profile

PEI (Productive Environments Inc.) was formed in 1989 to develop and ensure the manufacture of new, more powerful and productive stationery products including binders, pad holders, windowing note taking, and filing tools for children and adults at home, in school, and in the office.

PEI morphed into Productive Education LLC (PE LLC) in 1996. The decision to reincorporate and rebrand the company as an education company was based on feedback from all of our happy customers. We were asked to bring our innovative technologies and products to the opportunity of improving education in the US.

We reconfigured our product line to provide "the master keys to organizing literacy". We introduced a new line and rebranded our products and curriculum:
DocOA(Document Organizing Assistant pronounced "Doc OA") and
Organize360-our STEM classroom model for easy 1-2-3 implementation of organizing literacy at the grade or school wide level.

PE LLC originally focused it's primary research and development to establish a formal bridge between paper and electronics. That goal, as it is today, was to more readily facilitate the efficient and effective migration of a student from a notebook into a digital world onto a computer. The purpose at hand remains urgent, not only in the need to improve educational outcomes through innovative approaches to teaching and learning, but to truly increase the success and desire to learn by every student through increased satisfaction with the learning process at home and at school. That challenge is even greater today with the advent of large language AI models with generative learning. The opportunity to improve student Intellectual Property (the brains between their two ears) looms now, even larger, in the shadow of AI for everything.

We believe that delivering technology into this space is the most critical way to give students hope in forming a new learning modality where they can more readily harness AI. This is our vision for how to continue to make a contribution.

PE LLC re-structured as a licensing venture in order to ensure that those that want to participate as partners in manufacturing, service, and education utilizing the advances in DocOA technology could become players in the changing stationary products industry.

We leveraged our portfolio of patents with an active out-licensing program, incorporating our bridge stationery products, organizing gaming and simulation tools, and our sponsorship of a national initiative in Organizing Literacytm through our Eduation Futures Program serve to define our company and serve the industry.

To achieve true success, we decided we needed to succeed in the stationery products category first, and the stretch of years that PELLC's work developed BookWindows and DocOA, everything was focused on on that arena. We engaged as a proud member of SHOPA, the School, Home, and Office Products Association, to work to set new standards of excellence in both products and services for getting students and adults better organized using traditional stationery products. We developed both the products(tools) and the methods for using them to become better organized with papers, notebooks, files, calendars, and other traditional stationery products.

We partnered with established manufacturers and service providers to ensure access to these new capabilities on a world wide basis.
